【English version】”Junior and Senior High Joint Sports Festival”

On September 25th, we held a joint sports festival at the Maruzen INTEC Arena Osaka (formerly Osaka City Central Gymnasium). Until last year, junior and senior high school sports festivals were carried out exclusively at two separate playgrounds on the campus, but this year we held a joint sports festival with both schools together.

Currently, there are about 1,100 students in total at both Shoin Junior and Senior High School- a very appropriate number for a gymnasium of this size. I also felt that the number of participations per student was ideal. The spectators and the students themselves became very excited at each and every event, and the group dance performances were wonderful. I strongly feel this is a really attractive event to hold at a girl’s school.

The dance competition called “youth’s dynamics” between the third-year classes was one of the most unforgettable memories for high school third graders. Surrounded by outstanding acoustic effects in the gymnasium, everything was more powerful and impressive than before. They chose the theme by themselves, thought about the choreography and the costume corresponding to that theme, and practiced their dances to perfection. After the performances, there were smiles of satisfaction on the faces of all the students.

Shoin Gakuen celebrated its centennial in 2017 and this year is hopefully the start of another successful hundred years. In accordance with this anniversary, we conducted the new joint sports festival. As it was the first time, there are still many things we need improve, but with the support of the PTA and alumni association as a whole, we were able to host a warm and joyful sports festival.

In addition, about 150 of the volunteers accomplished their task of preparing, progressing, and cleaning up by working together as a team. Through these experiences, I’m sure they will do a lot of growing up. Another new tradition has just started.
