4月ブログでお知らせいたしました中学校1年生のオリエンテーション合宿に続き、５月には、様々な体験活動が行われました。土曜にも授業を行うことで十分な授業数が確保できているため、多くの学校行事を行うことができる、これも樟蔭中学校・高等学校の魅力の一つと考えています。

  5月9日は中学校・高等学校合同の視聴覚行事として、劇団四季による“ウィキッド”を鑑賞しました。名作「オズの魔法使い」を二人の魔女の視点から描いた『ウィキッド』が素晴らしい作品であることは言うまでもありませんが、公演後生徒たちは、中学1年生から高校3年生までそれぞれに作品から色々なメッセージを受け取ってくれたことと思います。

  5月14日、中学校・高等学校合同で大阪・関西万博に出かけました。夢洲に9時に集合、大阪ヘルスケアパビリオンや「未来都市」参加型シアター、日本館に加え、それぞれが事前に予約したパビリオンをグループごとに巡っていました。当日は心配したほど暑くはなく、大屋根リングの下や上は風がよく通り、涼しいと感じるときもありました。「一人ひとりが互いの多様性を認め、『いのち輝く未来社会のデザイン』を実現する」というテーマのもと、まさにこれからの未来社会を生きる生徒達は素直に、真剣に、そして熱心に展示を見学し、体験を行っていました。

  中学校2年生は、5月28日から30日にかけて、コース別宿泊学習を行いました。

  国際教養コースは、日本の伝統的な文化を学び、それを日本語と英語で伝えることができるようになることと、集団生活の中で、規律を守り、自己管理を心掛け、結束を強めることを目的に、京都で和菓子作りや陶芸体験、知恩院や二条城散策を行い、毎夕英語学習を行いました。

  総合進学コースは、「民泊・家業体験からの学び」「新しい学習形態（フィールドワーク）からの学び」「集団生活からの学び」を目的に、和歌山名物に関する体験活動や京都大学水族館での学習活動、最終日は白浜アドベンチャーワールドでふれあい体験などを行いました。

  身体表現コースは、「東京限定の観劇・ダンスの技術指導を受けることで日々の学習とクラブ活動・表現活動への意欲を育てる」ことを目的に、劇団四季ミュージカル『アラジン』観劇、ディズニーランドでプロダンサーの演技見学、STUDIO INHERITでのダンスレッスンなどに真剣に取り組んでいました。

  中学3年生は、5月27日から30日にかけて、九州方面へ修学旅行に行ってきました。初日は長崎での平和学習を行い稲佐山公園からの長崎の夜景の鑑賞、２日目は長崎市内を班ごとにたてた計画により史跡等の訪問見学、２日目午後と３日目昼過ぎまでハウステンボスでゆったり楽しみました。３日目午後は1,100年以上の歴史があり、学問の神様である道真公が祀られている太宰府天満宮に参拝しました。最終日は福岡のマリンワールド海の中道で海洋生物の学習を行った後、ザ ルイガンスで昼食をとり、帰途につきました。

  高校2年生は26日から30日にかけて、北海道方面へ修学旅行に行ってきました。初日、ノーザンホースパークで昼食・散策の後、洞爺湖で遊覧船に乗船しました。2日目は午前中ルスツ遊園地で級友とひとしきり楽しんだ後、アイヌ文化や歴史などが学べる“ウポポイ”を見学しました。3日目は希望により、ラフティングやジャムづくりなどの体験を行いました。ラフティングではまだ冷たい水や急流に歓声を上げながら楽しんでいたようです。ジャムづくり体験班は富良野チーズ工房やファーム富田をめぐりそれぞれ体験を行いました。4日目は札幌に移動し、午前中は札幌自主研修、午後は希望により、丸山動物園や白い恋人パークに行きました。最終日は小樽自主研修を満喫し、帰途につきました。

  それぞれの体験活動にはそれぞれドラマがありましたが、どの取り組みにおいても生徒たちは非常に前向きに取り組み、どんどん自分のものへと吸収し、そして成長していることを実感します。

A Month Full of Events in May – The Appeal of Education at Shoin

  Following the orientation camp for first-year junior high school students that was covered in April’s Principal’s Blog, a whole range of additional events were organized for students and held in May. Holding regular classes on Saturday mornings allows for enough space on the schedule for us to organize this wide range of interesting and exciting extra-curricular activities. We believe this one of the attractive points of Shoin Junior and Senior High School.

  On May 9th, the entire school and teaching staff attended “Wicked”, a musical put on by the Shiki Theater Company. “Wicked,” which serves as a prequel to the classic film “The Wizard of Oz”, is a without doubt a wonderful work, and after having the chance to watch this performance, I believe that all students from all grades were able to take on board a wide range of important messages from the performance.

  Later in the month, on May 14th, both the junior and senior high schools went on a full day trip to the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Students and teachers gathered outside Yumeshima Station at 9:00 AM and entered the event. Inside, they toured the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, the “Future City” interactive theater, and the Japan Pavilion in organized groups. Students were also able to visit the pavilions that they had reserved in advance. Thankfully it wasn’t as hot as it could have been and a cool breeze blowing through the large wooden perimeter ring made it feel nice and cool. Under the theme of “each individual accepting the diversity of others and realizing the design of a future society where life shines'” students, who represent the future of Japanese society took in the exhibits with interested and enthusiasm.

  From May 28th to 30th, the second-year junior high school students went on overnight study trips.

  The main aim of the International Liberal Arts course trip to Kyoto was to learn about Japanese culture and to communicate about it in both Japanese and English. In addition, these students had the chance to practice self-discipline and mindfulness, and strengthen their skills in cooperation while studying and living together as a group. In Kyoto, they had the chance to make Japanese sweets and pottery, explore Chion-in Temple and Nijo Castle, and study English after dinner on both evenings.

  Students in the General Education course had the opportunity to learn through private lodging and family business experiences, try out new learning styles (fieldwork), and learn from group living. They experienced some of Wakayama specialties, studied at the Kyoto University Aquarium, and had a hands-on experience at Shirahama Adventure World on their final day.

  The Physical Expression course aimed to develop a desire to study, participate in club activities, and expressive activities by receiving specialized instruction in theater and dance only available in Tokyo. While in Tokyo, they attended the Shiki Theater Company’s musical Aladdin, watched professional dancers perform at Disneyland, and took dance lessons at STUDIO INHERIT.

  From May 27th to 30th, the third-year junior high school students went on their school trip to Kyushu. On the first day, they learned about peace in Nagasaki and enjoyed a night view of the city from Inasayama Park. On the second day, they visited important historical sites in Nagasaki City in the morning, and from then enjoyed exploring and relaxing at Huis Ten Bosch until late in the afternoon on the third day. In the afternoon of the third day, the group visited Dazaifu Tenmangu, a shrine with a 1,100-year history and where Michizane, the god of learning, is enshrined. On the last day, there was an opportunity to learn about ocean life at Marine World Uminonakamichi in Fukuoka, and finally to have lunch at The Luigans Spa & Resort before returning to Osaka.

  From the 26th to the 30th, the second-year high school trip to Hokkaido took place. On the first day, after lunch and a walk in Northern Horse Park, students boarded a boat for a short cruise on Lake Toya. The next day, after enjoying themselves at Rusutsu Amusement Park in the morning, the students visited “Upopoy,” and were able to learn about Ainu culture and history. On the third day, students had the chance to experience rafting or jam making. One group of students really seemed to have enjoyed rafting down cold-water rapids, while the other group enjoyed their visit to the Furano Cheese Factory and Farm Tomita. On the fourth day, everyone traveled to Sapporo, where they studied in the morning and then visited Maruyama Zoo or Shiroi Koibito Park in the afternoon. On the final day, there was time for some independent study in Otaru before heading home.

  Each trip had its chances to experience something new had its own drama. In conclusion, all students took part positively in their activities, absorbing what they learned and using these opportunities to grow.
