11月20日（日）13時から、樟蔭学園100年会館で「樟蔭ホームカミングデー2022」を開催しました。これは、樟蔭学園の卒業生が旧交を温める機会として、学園が主催して毎年行っているイベントですが、ここ数年はコロナ禍により中止を余儀なくされていたものです。
今年は2020年度、2021年度に30、40、50、…という区切りの満年齢を迎えた卒業生を対象に、感染に最大限注意しながら、例年よりコンパクトな形にして行いました。思い出の学舎での、懐かしい友人や教員との語らいに多くの卒業生が集まりました。

オープニングセレモニーの後、希望に応じて昭和初期の建造物で登録有形文化財である樟徳館見学やキャンパス見学、田辺聖子文学館特別展見学などに分かれて、華やかで賑やかな雰囲気の中でそれぞれの思い出に花が咲いているようでした。朝方の雨も上がり、大変楽しいイベントとなりました。
オープニングの挨拶の中で、学園の建物も大きく様変わりをしたこと、新旧が混在した素敵な雰囲気になっていることなど、時間の流れについて触れました。また同時に、ずっと変わらないもの、明るく伸び伸びとした生徒の様子と校歌についてもお話ししました。「皆さん校歌を覚えていますか。今でも歌えますか。」と問い掛けると多くの卒業生が頷いていました。

樟蔭学園の校歌は歌詞もメロディも大変美しく、一度聞くと思わず歌いたくなる校歌です。入学式や卒業式、始業式や終業式で斉唱します。特に卒業式は国歌やお祝いの歌とともに声高らかに歌い上げ、まさに歌の式としていつまでも心に残ります。
しかしながら、コロナ禍により中学・高校生はこの3年間、一度も校歌を斉唱していないことをお話しすると、大変驚くとともに心から同情している様子でした。ここにも影響が強く及んでいます。一日でも早く収まり、以前と同じようにみんなで校歌を斉唱できる日が来ることを強く願っています。そして、ホームカミングデーでも、以前と同じような形式でみんなで再会を喜びたいと思います。

Shoin Homecoming Day 2022

“Shoin Homecoming Day 2022” was held in Shoin Gakuen’s 100th Anniversary Hall from 13:00 on Sunday, November 20th. This is an annual event sponsored by Shoin Gakuen and is a great opportunity for Shoin alumni to renew old friendships. Unfortunately, however, over the past few years we have been forced to be cancel this event due to COVID-19.

This year the event was able to go ahead, albeit in a more compact format than usual, and focused on graduates who will reach the ages of 30, 40, 50, etc. in 2020 and 2021. Many graduates gathered to chat with old friends and teachers about their school-day memories.

After the opening ceremony, there were tours of the Shotokukan, a building from the early Showa era and a registered tangible cultural property, a tour of the full campus, and a look at the Seiko Tanabe Museum of Literature’s special exhibition. Although it rained in the morning, the flowers were blooming, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable event.

In my opening remarks, I touched on the passing of time, such as how the school buildings have undergone major changes, and the wonderful atmosphere on campus created by the mix of old and new. At the same time, I also talked about those things that have not changed, such as the bright and relaxed appearance of the students and the school song. Many graduates nodded when I asked them, “Do you remember the school song? Can you still sing it?”

The lyrics and melody of Shoin Gakuen’s school song are so beautiful that once you hear them, you will want to sing it. It is sung in unison at entrance ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, opening ceremonies and closing ceremonies. Graduation ceremonies, in particular, are where it is sung most loudly, along with the national anthem and other congratulatory songs.

However, when I told the attendees that the junior and senior high school students had not sung the school song for the past three years due to COVID-19, they were very surprised and seemed genuinely sympathetic. I strongly hope that the day will come when everything returns to normal, and everyone can sing the school song together like before. And at future Homecoming Day events, I would like to celebrate the reunion with everyone in the same way as before.
