暑い暑い夏も終わりに近づいているのか、朝夕が少し涼しくなってきました。8月26日に始業式を行い、いよいよ2学期となりました。2学期は夏から秋を過ぎ冬までの長い長い学期です。そして一年の中で最大の行事の一つ、若葉祭が2学期にあります。
若葉祭は9月21日の体育祭の部と9月29日と10月1日にわたる文化祭の部を合わせたもので、生徒たちが自治会を中心に自主的に企画運営を行っています。テーマなども生徒が自分たちで決めており、2023年度の若葉祭のテーマは「～百花斉放（ひゃっかせいほう）～　満開の笑顔をもう一度」、体育祭のテーマは「～女魂開花（おんなだましいかいか）～」、文化祭のテーマは「～桜梅桃李（おうばいとうり）～」となりました。「～百花斉放～」には「一人一人が自分の持ち味を出して、一斉にたくさんの笑顔を咲かせよう」、「～女魂開花～」には「女子校ならではの女の強さ・本性を出し切り、一人一人が輝いて楽しみましょう」、「～桜梅桃李～」には「それぞれが独自の花を咲かせるように、一人一人の個性を発揮しよう」という意味が込められているそうです。「個」を大切にする本校の教育方針がそれぞれに反映されており、生徒たちの中にも定着していることをうれしく思います。
今年の文化祭の部は、コロナウイルス感染症等も警戒しながらですが、久しぶりに近隣の方なども入場可する方向で計画を進めているところです。
さらに、10月1日の文化祭の日に合わせて、高校2年生総合進学コースの生徒たちが取り組んでいる“MY time”（総合的な探究の時間）の研究発表を行います。今年度より“My　time”は総合進学コースの生徒が火曜日5限目と金曜日5・6限合わせて週3時間を、各自の好きな研究テーマにより探究活動を行っている時間となります。各自の取り組んでいるテーマは、「ビジネスマーケッティング」「環境問題とフードロス」「留学生の国と日本の食文化の違いについて」「観光客が日本に魅かれて訪れる理由」「犬の殺処分をゼロにするには何を行えばいいか」などから「ネコについて」「チョコレートでSDGｓに貢献」「オリジナル曲の作成」「漫画を描く」「粘土・アルミフォイルを使ったフィギュア作り」など様々です。テーマの選択については一切制限がなく、週3時間ずっとマンガを読んでいても良いと言っています。ルールはただ一つ、半年に一度、プレゼン・発表することです。高校２年生の前半の発表を１０月１日の文化祭の部として、本学園の記念館２階で発表することといたしました。本校入学を希望される小中学生・保護者の方々、近隣の皆様、本校生徒保護者の皆様にはぜひお越しいただき、文化祭と合わせて、生徒たちの頑張りを見ていただければと思っております。多くの方のご来場をお待ちしております。

Aug 31st 2023　Principal’s blog – Sports Day/Culture Festival ＆ My time presentations.

Mornings and evenings are starting to feel a little cooler as we approach the end of a very hot summer. We will hold the opening ceremony on August 26th and the second semester will begin, which extends from the end of summer to the start of winter and contains some of the biggest events of the year: Sports Day and Culture Festival.
On Sports Day, held on September 21st, and Culture Festival, held from September 29th to October 1st, students will independently manage and plan all aspects of the events in cooperation with the school council. Students decide the themes of the events, this year’s being, “100 flowers- a full bloom smile once more.” The Sports Day theme is, “Blooming of a girl’s spirit,” and the Culture Festival theme is, “Gathering of blooming flowers.” The themes suggest how each student has their own strengths and individuality, and can come together to shine, showing wonderful smiles. Individuality is an important part of Shoin’s education and I’m happy to see it reflected in the students.
Naturally, vigilance will be shown at the Culture Festival to prevent the spread of coronavirus. However, this year we are recommending that people from the neighborhood and family members etc. be allowed to enter and enjoy the event.
Furthermore, on October 1st, along with the Culture Festival, second grade students from the high school will give a presentation on their research conducted in the “MY time” lessons carried out three times a week, on Tuesday period ⑤ and Friday periods ⑤ and ⑥, in which students research a topic of their own choosing. Topics range from, “business marketing,” “the environment and food loss,” “differences in food culture between Japan and countries of overseas study,” “reasons tourists are attracted to Japan,” “how to eliminate the putting down of dogs,” to, “about cats,” “contributing to SDGs with chocolate,” “song composition,” “manga art,” and, “making figures from clay and aluminum foil.” There are no restrictions when choosing a topic, and students are even free to read comics for the designated three hours a week. The only rule is, students must do a presentation once every six months. The first presentation of this year will be held on October 1st on the second floor of the school’s memorial building. I’d like to warmly welcome all prospective students from elementary and junior high schools and their parents, members of the local community, and parents of current students at the school, to come and see the efforts of our students at the presentations as well as the annual Culture Festival.
