Careers that Junior and Senior High School Girls are Interested In
It’s been a month since the start of 2025, and every year at this time, the results of a LINE survey on what careers junior and senior high school students are interested in are announced. So, what were the results this year?
Outlined below are the careers that female junior high school students around the country are interested in.
Coming in in third place is nursing. In fourth place is hairdressing, in fifth place is working as a civil servant, and in sixth place is nursery school/kindergarten teaching.
In second place is teaching at schools or universities. This seems to be a career declining in popularity, perhaps due to working conditions, but one that is still popular among junior high school students.
The number one career that junior high-school girls are interested in is illustration. The main reason for this is that many students appear to like drawing and many stated that they would like to do it for a living.
Next are the jobs that high-school girls expressed interest in.
In third place were teacher, faculty staff, and university professor, in fourth place was nursery-school teacher, in fifth place were psychological counselor and clinical psychologist, and in sixth place were nutritionist and registered dietitian.
In second place was nurse, a job ranked highly by both junior and senior high school students. It is a demanding job that involves sacrifices, but one that is indispensable within our society.
The top ranked job was national or local government employee. Two specific reasons for this given by students were, “I want to help make improvements in my local area”, and “I am interested in working at the United Nations one day.” As high school students become more familiar with what a career entails, stability may be one of the main things they are looking for.
In addition, when asked the question, “What do you prioritize when choosing a company?”, the top answer was “being able to take ample time off,” followed by “good salary, bonuses, and other benefits” and “workplace relationships.”
A job is not just something you need in order to make money. It has a great significance in how you express yourself in society and how you participate and interact with those around you. In that sense, the junior and senior high school years are such an important time for students as they come to understand their interests and characteristics. At the same time students must be focused on developing skills in all areas of their lives, not only those related to academic progress.
Shoin Junior and Senior High School not only strives to develop a student’s academic ability in each subject, but also to enhance their ability to set and solve problems by looking at the world through inquiry-based learning. The aim here is to cultivate the abilities and qualities that each student will need when they enter society and is achieved through student council, club, and volunteer activities.
The ideas mentioned in the preceding paragraph refer to thinking, judgment, and expression and include communication and cooperation skills, as well as the ability to learn independently and collaborate with a wide range of people. These have traditionally been called non-cognitive abilities and had previously been considered difficult to quantify or visualize. However, a system developed in the United States to do so and subsequently adapted by Waseda University for use in Japan is now available.
In conclusion, we are pleased to announce that, considering the importance being placed on the abilities outlined in the post above by the government, universities, companies, and similar institutions, and to enable students to understand and develop their own abilities, Shoin Junior and Senior High School will be fully implementing this new system starting from the next academic year.
