On February 14th 2024, the 6th Kusunoki Trophy English Speech contest was held at the Shoin International Learning Center (SILC).

The format for this year’s contest was a little different compared to past years as it saw the introduction of a new contest section for junior high school students. 

In total, the contest included 12 participants – 5 in the junior high school contest and 7 in the high school contest. The theme this year for the student speeches was open and each chose their own unique topic. These topics ranged from hobbies, favorite foods and personal challenges to kabuki, kimonos, and famous locations around Japan.

The 12 students that took on the speech contest challenge this year began the planning process back in October, 2023. In the months, weeks, and days leading up to the contest each worked hard on their scripts and slides, practicing with friends, parents, and teachers in the i-Lounge.

The contest this year happened to fall on Valentine’s Day and although most of the speakers were nervous at first, they quickly settled into the contest and enjoyed listening to the wide range of topics being presented.

Overall, it was another very successful and enjoyable event made possible by the efforts put in by the participants as well as the staff of the SILC who assisted greatly by hosting and judging the competition and putting on a fun Valentine’s Day party for the students after the contest.

2024年2月14日、第6回くすのき杯英語スピーチコンテストが樟蔭国際学習センター（SILC）にて開催されました。

今年のコンテストは、例年とは少し形式が異なり、中学生も暗唱ではなく、高校生と同様にそれぞれのスピーチを発表しました。

コンテストには中学生コンテストに5名、高校生コンテストに7名の合計12名が参加しました。

スピーチのテーマは自由で、趣味、好きな食べ物、歌舞伎、着物、日本各地の名所まで多岐にわたりました。

スピーチコンテストに挑戦した 12 人の生徒は、2023 年 10 月から準備を開始しました。コンテストまでの数か月、数週間、数日間、それぞれが友人、保護者、i-Loungeの先生たちと練習しながら、台本やスライド作成に熱心に取り組みました。 

最初は緊張していた登壇者も多かったですが、今年のコンテストはバレンタインデーに重なったこともあり、すぐに打ち解けて、幅広い話題を楽しみながら聞いていました。

全体として、今回も参加者の努力と、コンテストの主催・審査、そして終了後の生徒のための楽しいバレンタインデーパーティーの開催など多大なご協力をいただいたSILCスタッフの尽力により、今回も大成功で楽しいイベントとなりました。
